World Takes Proof-of-Human IDs to Banks

World announced World ID for banking and finance, a set of tools intended to help financial institutions verify that a real person is behind transactions and customer requests. World named Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital and VanEck Funds as initial design partners; it did not say the tools were in use at those firms.

The tools include a proof that requires a one-time visit to an iris-scanning Orb, a phone-based selfie check and a proof of details from a government ID. A related toolkit for delegating some proofs to AI agents is still in beta. World’s use of biometric data has faced regulatory action, including orders to stop iris scanning in Hong Kong and delete iris-scan data in Spain.
