Binance: Fake Interview, Compromised AI Enabled Hack

Binance said attackers stole approximately $6.34 billion in cryptocurrency on Oct. 29 after a months-long campaign that compromised employees and its wallet-signing systems. The source does not give a year for the theft. Binance said the attackers also used Ethereum’s EIP-7702 mechanism to move assets after normal withdrawals were suspended.

Binance said approximately $2.85 billion in stolen assets had been frozen or intercepted, and 98% of affected token assets had been replenished as of Oct. 31; purchases of less liquid cryptocurrencies were continuing. The FBI and two blockchain intelligence firms attributed the attack to North Korean hackers, an allegation North Korean leadership denied. Binance said its investigation remains ongoing and some technical findings still need independent verification.
