Mastercard Unveils Stablecoin Security for Digital Payments

Mastercard introduced Stablecoin Security with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails on Oct. 19, 2026. Mastercard says the system uses payment and blockchain data to score fraud, scam and sanctions risks before stablecoin payments are completed, so banks and payment providers can investigate suspicious activity before settlement.

The initial rollout focuses on North America; Mastercard plans worldwide commercial availability in 2027, with BVNK expected to support the expansion. Mastercard cited research on 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025, saying nearly 60% involved complex, multistep activity.
