Glamsterdam Hoodi Upgrade Delayed Over EIP-8037 Risks

Ethereum core developers postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, originally scheduled for October 26, 2026, to investigate how EIP-8037’s gas accounting changes interact with existing mainnet smart contracts. The delay cancels the planned Amsterdam execution-layer activation, Gloas consensus-layer activation and increase of Hoodi’s gas limit to 200 million. No replacement date has been set.

Security firm ChainSecurity warned that EIP-8037’s gas repricing could let some failure handlers succeed where they previously reverted, potentially breaking assumptions in certain contracts. The delay does not revert Hoodi’s chain history or affect Sepolia, where Glamsterdam activated on October 6. Mainnet users and ETH holders need take no action, but node and validator operators must update to client releases that explicitly confirm removal of the October 26 activation.
