DeFi Security Breach: DNS Attacks Compromise Domains

On Thursday, Celer Network and Compound Finance reported that their domains were compromised in a hacking campaign targeting crypto websites. The attack, involving a Domain Name System (DNS) breach, affected multiple decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.

Security experts noted that at least 11 platforms, including Pendle Finance, Polymarket, and THORChain, might be at risk. The hack likely originated from Google Domain accounts, now under scrutiny after Squarespace acquired Google Domains in a $180 million deal last year.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of Web3 solutions through their Web2 connections. No funds have been reported stolen yet, but users are advised to avoid interacting with defi dapps until the threat is mitigated.

The need for defensive vigilance is crucial. Efforts like SEAL 911 and security councils, including Coinbase, aim to combat these growing threats. The strategic importance of robust security measures cannot be overstated as the crypto landscape evolves.
