Michal Pospieszalski argues that the crypto industry must move away from traditional crypto addresses to enhance security. Despite over 15 years in existence, cryptocurrencies still suffer from significant security flaws, highlighted by over $200 million stolen from exchanges and defi protocols in the first quarter of 2024.
One significant problem is the reliance on alphanumeric addresses, which are prone to errors and phishing attacks. A notorious example is the Inferno Drainer scam, which deceived users into connecting their wallets to fraudulent sites. Transitioning to human-readable addresses could improve security and user experience, making crypto transactions safer and more accessible.
Additionally, the industry faces issues with cross-chain integration and defi security, underscored by the $625 million Ronin Network hack. Addressing these vulnerabilities is crucial for crypto to be recognized as a legitimate financial system.
