Reported hack may obscure crypto PAC spending

The US Federal Election Commission said its electronic filing system remained offline after reports of a hack, potentially delaying disclosure of spending in the final days before the 2026 midterm elections. Existing campaign finance data remained public, but the outage could leave new spending unreported; it does not show that spending stopped.

FEC filings showed no expenditures since Sunday by five crypto-aligned super PACs, including Fairshake, though the outage limits what can be concluded from that gap. Reuters reported, citing an email, that hackers had targeted the FEC website. An FEC spokesperson said IT staff were working to restore service.
