British cryptocurrency exchange Lykke reported a $22 million loss after a cyberattack on June 4. The breach led to the theft of 158 BTC and 2,161 ETH from its wallet.
In a June 10 post, Lykke acknowledged the incident after web3 threats researcher @somaxbt disclosed the attack. Lykke promptly shut down affected systems to contain the damage and assured that security breaches have been fully addressed.
The exchange emphasized its financial health, citing “solid capital reserves and a diverse portfolio.” Client funds are safe and will be recovered.
Lykke has paused withdrawals and deposits as a preventive measure, with no clear timeframe for resuming operations. This incident is the second-largest crypto theft in Q2, following a $300 million hack on Japanese Bitcoin exchange DMM.
