Crypto Payments Near Approval in California

California Assembly Passes Bill to Accept Crypto Payments

  • The California Assembly passed AB 1180 unanimously with a 68-0 vote.
  • The bill allows state agencies to accept cryptocurrency payments.
  • If enacted, the pilot program would start on July 1, 2026, and run through January 1, 2031.
  • California will join Florida, Colorado, and Louisiana in accepting crypto for state obligations.
  • The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation will develop rules under the Digital Financial Assets Law.

Assembly Bill 1180 has been approved by the California Assembly and is now moving to the Senate. If signed into law, it will enable state agencies to accept cryptocurrencies starting July 2026 as part of a pilot program. This aligns California with other states like Florida that have already adopted similar measures.
