Trump-Backed Partner Tied to Scam Firm

AB Network Linked to Sanctioned Cambodian Scam Figures

  • The AB network project is linked to individuals sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury for alleged scam operations involving the Cambodia-based Prince Group.
  • World Liberty Financial, backed by President Donald Trump, partnered with AB network in November to use its U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin USD1 on AB’s blockchain.
  • In the U.S., online scams surged in 2025 with nearly $21 billion lost, and cryptocurrency-related fraud accounted for over $11 billion of these losses.

An investigation revealed that a planned blockchain-themed resort in Timor-Leste tied to the AB network involved three individuals later sanctioned for their connection to a global scam operation run by the Prince Group. World Liberty Financial claims no knowledge of these links and maintains that due diligence was conducted before partnering with AB.

Despite distancing from sanctioned individuals, AB continues promoting its partnership with World Liberty Financial, although uptake of its stablecoin remains limited at around $3.6 million supply and just over 3,000 holders. (Source)
