Ethereum Staking Bottleneck Costs $350K Daily

Ethereum Staking Backlog Reaches Over 2 Million ETH

  • As of August 30, over 2.059 million ETH is waiting to enter Ethereum staking.
  • Currently, more than 42 million ETH, approximately 35% of the total supply, is already staked.
  • New deposits face an estimated wait time of about 35 days and 18 hours.
  • The backlog translates to potential daily consensus rewards of roughly 141 to 148 ETH, valued between $348,000 and $366,000.
  • Only 96 ETH was recorded in the validator exit queue at the same time.

The current situation highlights a significant demand for Ethereum’s staking capacity, as the activation queue grows due to network limitations on deposit processing rates under the Electra consensus rules.

With over 42 million ETH already staked and an additional 2.06 million ETH awaiting activation, Ethereum faces a bottleneck that imposes substantial costs on depositors due to delayed reward opportunities.
