Ethereum Staking Launches in Grayscale ETFs

Grayscale Becomes First U.S. Asset Manager to Offer Staking in ETFs

  • Grayscale Investments has integrated staking into its Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust ETF (ETH) and Grayscale Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHE).
  • Investors can earn staking rewards as either reinvested gains or cash payouts, catering to different investment strategies.
  • The firm is also preparing to enable staking for its Grayscale Solana Trust (GSOL), pending regulatory approval.
  • Staking yields average around 3.2%, potentially lowering management fees for ETH ETFs that can reach 2.5%.
  • Currently, about 36 million ETH, or roughly 30% of Ethereum’s total supply, is staked, with Lido controlling 23% of that market.

Grayscale’s introduction of staking within regulated investment structures marks a significant shift in the U.S. regulatory landscape for crypto assets, especially following previous restrictions on such services by the SEC.

This development could enhance competition among Ethereum ETFs and increase institutional participation in staking pools, as evidenced by the substantial amount of ETH currently staked. (Source)
