Greece’s parliament passed a bill to tax annual net cryptocurrency gains at 10%, with the rules scheduled to apply from January 1, 2027. Individual investors with gains of €500 ($557) or less will be exempt; above that threshold, the tax applies to the entire gain, not just the amount over €500. Income from staking, crypto lending and DeFi liquidity provision will face a separate 15% tax.
The government says crypto-to-crypto swaps should be exempt, but a parliamentary review warned that the approved wording could make them taxable. The review recommended an explicit exemption. A Finance Ministry official said guidance on transaction transparency and tax audits would follow in the coming weeks.
