Starknet Eyes Post-Quantum; Voters Back Ethereum Split

The Starknet Foundation said 93.52% of voting power backed exploring a shift from an Ethereum Layer 2 to a standalone blockchain in a non-binding poll that ended Oct. 22. The vote does not authorize a transition, and no implementation timeline has been set. StarkWare and the foundation will study the technical requirements and trade-offs, then publish their findings before any formal proposal goes to another community vote.

The proposal aims to reduce Starknet’s reliance on Ethereum for settlement and data availability as it pursues resistance to future quantum threats. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said more work would be needed to make the entire network resistant. Under the proposed approach, STRK would remain the native token and bridges to Ethereum would stay operational.
