Renzo, an Ethereum liquid restaking platform, reported a compromise of its Discord server on July 22. Rogue actors hijacked the server and posted malicious phishing links, prompting Renzo to warn members against interacting with any messages or links.
Despite the breach, Renzo’s native token, REZ, showed resilience with a slight 0.7% increase. Liquid restaking protocols, including Renzo, manage over $14 billion in user deposits, driven by the popularity of tools like EigenLayer, which offer additional yield opportunities using staked Ether (stETH).
Renzo remains the second-largest liquid restaking provider despite a 44% decline in the past 30 days. This incident is part of a larger trend of increasing attacks on defi platforms, with notable breaches affecting Across Protocol and CertiK in the past year.
Such events underscore the critical need for robust security measures in the rapidly evolving defi landscape.
