Ethereum Exploit Creates 5.4 Trillion vsdCRV

StakeDAO Exploit Results in Minting of Over 5.4 Trillion vsdCRV

  • An attacker minted more than 5.4 trillion vsdCRV on Arbitrum following a suspected compromise of a StakeDAO deployer key.
  • The attacker realized proceeds of about $91,000 by swapping part of the minted tokens for 43.7 Ether (ETH).
  • Onchain analyst EmberCN reported that the attacker swapped approximately 16.83 million vsdCRV, with limited liquidity preventing further cash-out.
  • The estimated nominal value of the minted vsdCRV was around $763 billion, though this does not reflect actual profits or losses.
  • StakeDAO has warned users to avoid interacting with vsdCRV following the incident.

This incident underscores vulnerabilities in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, particularly regarding single points of failure in key management systems, as highlighted by experts in crypto security.

Despite minting over $763 billion worth of tokens, the attacker only managed to secure $91,000 due to low liquidity levels in the vsdCRV pools.(Source)
