Ethereum ETFs Approved for NYSE Trading

The New York Stock Exchange Arca (NYSE Arca) has confirmed the approval for the listing and trading of spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from Grayscale and Bitwise. This regulatory nod from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) marks a significant milestone under the Exchange Act of 1934.

This certification is crucial as it signifies regulatory acceptance, providing investors a regulated means to gain exposure to Ethereum without direct cryptocurrency ownership. The approval process involved two steps: SEC’s initial approval of 19b-4 forms in May, followed by the final registration statement expected to become effective soon.

In preparation for trading, firms are adjusting management fees. Bitwise offers a competitive 0.20% fee with an initial discount for the first $500 million in assets, while Grayscale’s higher fee of 2.5% has drawn criticism. The move by NYSE Arca is strategically important, potentially paving the way for more cryptocurrency-based financial products in traditional markets.
