Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe proposed ending the Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) automatic funding stream and crediting its 8% share of block subsidies to the Network Sustainability Mechanism. The proposal is a draft: it has not been approved or scheduled for activation, is not part of the currently specified Network Upgrade 7, and would require a later upgrade before the existing stream expires.
Under Bowe’s plan, ZCG would keep its accumulated treasury and continue awarding grants, while the separate 12% coinholder-controlled allocation would remain unchanged. The proposal estimates ZCG’s net resources at about $125.3 million using a hypothetical ZEC price of $1,300. Zcash Open Development Lab founder Josh Swihart opposed ending only the ZCG stream and urged retiring both funding streams, while honoring previously approved grants and allowing a proposed one-time, coinholder-voted legal defense endowment.
