Zcash Allocates 20% Block Rewards to Grants

The Zcash community has approved a proposal to allocate 20% of block rewards to a new decentralized grants system, aiming to enhance development initiatives across the ecosystem. This decision comes after a poll among the Zcash Community Advisory Panel, focusing on the future of the Zcash Development Fund, which expires in November.

The favored proposal, the “Lockbox for Decentralized Grants Allocation,” received a 63% cumulative approval, significantly outpacing other options. Funds will accumulate in a trust until a decentralized voting and signature mechanism is established for disbursement.

This shift represents a move away from direct protocol funding, marking a significant milestone in Zcash’s push for decentralization. Despite technical challenges, the new model promises greater community involvement and long-term sustainability. The Electric Coin Company supports this change, emphasizing the need for community-driven initiatives over the current “dev tax.”

This strategic shift could have a lasting impact on Zcash’s development, fostering a more resilient and community-oriented ecosystem.
