Zcash Bugs Eliminated by Anthropic’s Mythos AI

Zcash Audit by AI Model Finds No Serious Vulnerabilities

  • Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox reported that an AI audit by Anthropic’s Claude Mythos found no serious bugs in the Zcash protocol.
  • The audit was commissioned by Shielded Labs, a Swiss non-profit supporting Zcash development.
  • On June 3, Zcash developers halted Orchard transactions due to a forgery bug discovered in the shielded pool.
  • The vulnerability was identified with help from Anthropic’s Claude Opus model, but no exploitation or unauthorized value creation occurred.
  • Anthropic recently suspended access to its AI models due to U.S. government export control directives citing national security concerns.

The use of AI models like Claude Mythos is becoming prevalent for identifying vulnerabilities in cryptocurrency protocols, although it raises cybersecurity concerns across the industry. The surge in crypto hacks reached $634 million in April, indicating a growing threat landscape.

Despite recent vulnerabilities, the Zcash audit confirmed no serious issues were found, underscoring ongoing efforts to enhance security within the ecosystem. (Source)
