Zcash Proposes Ironwood Pool to Address Orchard Vulnerability
- Zcash developers are proposing a new shielded pool named Ironwood following a vulnerability in the Orchard protocol.
- The Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) is collaborating with Tachyon, Valar Group, the Zcash Foundation, and Shielded Labs for this upgrade.
- Ironwood will require funds to pass through a “turnstile” before entering, acting as an accounting checkpoint.
- Auditors found no evidence that user funds were affected or that the total supply of ZEC changed due to the bug.
- At its lowest, ZEC traded at $303 after falling from over $600 in response to the vulnerability disclosure.
The proposed Ironwood pool aims to enhance security and transparency within the Zcash ecosystem by preventing counterfeit coins from entering circulation if exploited. The activation is targeted for late July 2026, pending further testing and coordination.
Currently priced at $429, ZEC has experienced significant volatility following concerns about the Orchard flaw’s potential impact on its supply.(Source)
