Zcash plans to disable the transaction format needed to withdraw coins from its original privacy pool, Sprout, when its NU7 upgrade activates at block 3,543,405. About 12,224 ZEC, worth roughly $15 million to $16 million at recent prices, remained in Sprout, according to ZecStats. Holders must withdraw those coins before activation or they will become unspendable, even if the holders still have their keys. The coins will not be destroyed, but the upgrade’s specification warns that spending them may never be re-enabled.
The deadline depends on when the network reaches the specified block, not a fixed time. NU7 is also expected to cut Zcash’s target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, making first confirmations approximately three times faster, according to the Zcash Foundation.
