SEC Targets 3 Platforms in Probe

Congress Investigates Prediction Market Platforms for Insider Trading

  • House Oversight Chairman James Comer has requested trading records from Hyperliquid, Crypto.com, and Predictit by Oct. 13.
  • Hyperliquid is under scrutiny for a $1.1 billion short position reportedly yielding $150 million in profit.
  • A U.S. Army Master Sgt. allegedly gained over $409,000 using classified intelligence for betting.
  • Polymarket and Kalshi have already submitted nearly 1,000 documents and five briefings to Congress.

The investigation aims to determine if prediction market platforms are adequately preventing insider trading by government employees and other insiders using privileged information for financial gain.

Congress’s inquiry highlights concerns about the integrity of prediction markets as they become more mainstream, focusing on identity verification and suspicious activity reporting practices among platforms like Hyperliquid and Crypto.com. (Source)
