Crypto Fraud Crackdown: SEC Task Force Launched

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched the Interagency Securities Council (ISC) to combat securities and crypto fraud. This initiative, involving over 100 federal, state, and local agencies, aims to enhance collaboration and information exchange.

Chair Gurbir S. Grewal and Directors Adam Anicich and Manuel Vazquez lead the ISC, which meets quarterly. This effort helps investigators stay updated on emerging threats. Cristina Martin Firvida highlighted how this coordination boosts investor protection.

The ISC’s focus includes combating cryptocurrency scams, which have increased with digital currency adoption. Fraudsters use social media, deepfake technology, and pump-and-dump schemes to deceive investors.

This council is crucial for enhancing cross-agency communication and tackling sophisticated fraud methods. The SEC’s strategic move underscores its commitment to investor safety and market integrity.
