MiCA Framework Finalized by EU Banking Authority #Crypto

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has finalized the technical standards for the MiCA crypto framework, ensuring EU firms meet high financial standards. This follows MiCA’s implementation last year and aims to regulate the rapid growth of the crypto industry.

The finalized framework mandates crypto asset issuers to meet strict criteria, including changes in own funds, liquidity provisions, and recovery plans. Issuers of ARTs and EMTs must conduct stress tests in specific financial conditions to manage market fluctuations.

The EBA outlines processes for authorities to impose enhanced financial requirements based on risk outlook and stress test results. Issuers must adjust own funds to meet new standards within 25 working days.

Specific rules on liquidity, including reserve asset ratios, ensure issuers can fulfill obligations even during stress periods. Prescriptions for managing highly liquid financial instruments aim to mitigate exposure risks.

The MiCA framework has boosted EUR-stablecoin utilization, challenging USDT’s dominance in Europe. Legal certainty and consumer protection under MiCA make EUR-stablecoins more appealing, reflecting growing confidence in digital currencies.

This development underscores MiCA’s effectiveness in fostering a secure, thriving digital asset market in Europe. The EBA’s detailed standards enhance financial stability and transparency, crucial for long-term market health.
