The Digital Chamber of Commerce has filed a motion to support LEJILEX and the Crypto Freedom Alliance of Texas in their lawsuit against the SEC. This action aims to halt the SEC’s attempts to regulate the digital asset industry without a clear legislative foundation.
The amicus brief argues that the SEC is overstepping its jurisdiction by enforcing securities laws on digital assets without clear rules. It warns that this could harm the entire digital asset industry, citing previous enforcement actions against companies like Coinbase and Binance as examples of overregulation.
LEJILEX, which plans to launch Legit. Exchange, faces legal risks due to the SEC’s ambiguous stance on registration for digital asset trading platforms. The Digital Chamber contends that the SEC’s current approach is unconstitutional and calls for collaboration between the SEC, other federal agencies, and Congress to create clear guidelines. This would encourage innovation and provide clear compliance expectations.
Perianne Boring of The Digital Chamber emphasized the need to act before the SEC extends its authority illegally. Coinbase has also supported this stance, urging Congress to provide clear regulatory guidance for digital assets.
This case highlights the critical need for legislative clarity to foster innovation and development in the digital asset industry in the United States.
