Nvidia Shareholder Lawsuit Reviewed by Supreme Court

The US Supreme Court will review Nvidia’s request to dismiss a securities fraud lawsuit brought by shareholders. The lawsuit alleges that Nvidia and its CEO, Jensen Huang, misled investors about the extent of its sales tied to the crypto industry.

The case, originating in California, claims Nvidia falsely stated its ability to monitor and adjust to cryptocurrency market changes and downplayed potential impacts on its GPU business. Initially dismissed in 2021, the lawsuit was revived by the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a 2-1 ruling.

Nvidia argues the complaint lacks specificity and warns of “abusive and speculative litigation” if the ruling stands. In 2022, Nvidia settled similar charges with U.S. authorities for $5.5 million. Nvidia’s stock recently hit an all-time high, emphasizing the company’s significant market position.

The Supreme Court’s decision could influence the ease with which shareholders can file future securities fraud lawsuits, impacting corporate transparency and accountability.
