Market participants discuss SEC’s proposed crypto regulations

The US Securities and Exchange Commission was set to close public comment on Tuesday on crypto rules it proposed in August. The rules would create a framework for certain crypto-related investment contracts, including a proposed safe harbor for token issuers and exemptions for offerings up to a set amount. They have not been adopted, and Congress has not passed a broader crypto regulatory framework.

The SEC received about 140 comments over 60 days. The MiCA Crypto Alliance largely supported the proposed disclosure changes but sought clearer definitions. Some legal experts suggested SEC rules could be more easily overturned than an act of Congress.
