The European Banking Authority announced on October 14 that it had designated USDC the EU’s first significant e-money token under MiCA. From November 12, the EBA will take direct responsibility for specified areas of supervision, including reserves, liquidity and redemption planning. France’s ACPR will retain oversight of other matters, including governance and outsourcing.
Circle Internet Financial Europe SAS issues USDC within the bloc. The designation is not a new token launch, and the added supervision does not remove market, custody or operational risk or guarantee redemption in every scenario.
