SEC Proposal Could Expand Crypto Custody Options

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission proposed a tailored crypto-asset custody framework for investment advisers and registered funds on October 1, 2026. The proposal would address crypto custody and modify requirements involving adviser audits and broker-dealer custodial services.

It is not in effect and does not give every registered fund or adviser blanket permission to self-custody assets. Its details and final scope may change after public feedback, so implementation and market effects cannot yet be assumed.
