Stablecoin Launches in North Dakota with Fiserv

North Dakota Launches ‘Roughrider Coin’ in Stablecoin Initiative

  • The Bank of North Dakota is partnering with Fiserv to launch a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin called “Roughrider Coin.”
  • The token aims to enhance bank-to-bank transactions and drive merchant adoption across the state.
  • Roughrider Coin is set to roll out next year and will utilize Fiserv’s digital asset platform.
  • Stablecoins have surged to an asset class worth $293 billion, growing approximately 70% in a year.
  • This initiative follows Wyoming’s earlier deployment of its own Frontier Stable Token, which is currently in testing.

North Dakota’s move into the stablecoin sector reflects a broader trend among U.S. states exploring cryptocurrency solutions for financial institutions, facilitated by advancements like the GENIUS Act that provides a legal framework for such initiatives.

With Roughrider Coin expected next year, North Dakota joins other states in leveraging stablecoins as part of their financial ecosystem transformation efforts, contributing to the $293 billion market growth noted this year.
