The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the Bank of England have launched Project Pyxtrial to monitor stablecoin reserves. Announced on July 31, the project aims to provide near real-time data on stablecoins’ liabilities and backing assets.
Project Pyxtrial features data collection, storage, and analysis, supporting APIs for connectivity. It has already demonstrated the supervision of asset-backed stablecoins’ balance sheets but requires a multidisciplinary regulatory team for effective deployment.
This initiative could extend to other tokenized products, helping regulators proactively detect issues. However, concerns remain, as Tether’s CEO warned that strict cash reserve requirements under Europe’s MiCA could pose systemic risks.
