Tether, the issuer of USDT, announced record profits of $5.2 billion for the first half of 2024, with $1.3 billion netted in Q2 alone. This new high is largely attributed to yield-bearing investments like U.S. Treasuries.
Most of Tether’s profits came from these investments, while the company also invested in Bitcoin mining, Keet, and decentralized AI data centers. However, the New York Attorney General mandated regular financial reports from Tether after a previous settlement.
USDT holds the largest market cap among stablecoins at $114 billion but faces potential challenges from emerging regulations in Europe and the U.S. Circle, a competitor, secured Europe’s first stablecoin license and plans to go public in the U.S.
Tether’s strategic investments and regulatory compliance efforts are crucial for maintaining its market dominance amid evolving global regulations.
