Hong Kong-based digital bank ZA Bank has begun offering reserve banking services to stablecoin issuers as part of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s (HKMA) stablecoin sandbox initiative. Announced on July 18, ZA Bank partnered with RD InnoTech and is onboarding nearly ten more stablecoin clients.
This move follows HKMA’s approval for companies to test fiat-backed stablecoins, focusing on e-commerce, trade settlement, and tokenized assets. Participants include JD.com’s JINGDONG Coinlink Technology and a consortium with Standard Chartered Bank, Animoca Brands, and Hong Kong Telecommunications.
Earlier, HKMA received over 100 submissions supporting stablecoin regulation, highlighting the sector’s growth potential. HKMA Chief Executive Eddie Yue stressed the need for a regulated environment to ensure sustainable growth in Hong Kong’s stablecoin ecosystem.
This initiative is pivotal for Hong Kong, aiming to position it as a leader in the stablecoin market, fostering innovation and economic growth.
