Kakao Pay Launches Stablecoin Partnership with Fireblocks

Kakao Pay and KakaoBank Partner with Fireblocks to Explore Stablecoin Infrastructure

  • Kakao Pay and KakaoBank signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Fireblocks to explore digital asset opportunities, including stablecoins.
  • The collaboration will conduct proof-of-concept tests for digital asset infrastructure tailored to South Korea’s regulatory and security needs.
  • Fireblocks serves over 2,500 institutions globally, including more than 100 banks.
  • This MoU follows a previous agreement between Kakao Group and Circle to develop blockchain-based payment systems.
  • Kakao Pay and KakaoBank are part of a broader trend among South Korean firms exploring stablecoin initiatives as the country refines its digital asset regulations.

The partnership aims to establish secure onchain infrastructure for South Korea’s growing digital asset market, reflecting the increasing interest in stablecoins by financial entities in the region.

With this MoU, Kakao Pay and KakaoBank join other South Korean firms in exploring stablecoins, following KB Financial Group’s successful pilot program earlier this year. (Source)
