OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, 2026, as a lower-cost model for computer use, coding, visual analysis and workflow automation. It is available through ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu subscribers, and through an API for developers. API prices are 50% lower than for GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
OpenAI reported gains in speed, task completion and factual accuracy over GPT-5.6 Terra. Independent tests found Terra faster and cheaper than GPT-6.1 Sol, but behind Sol on more complex tasks. Under OpenAI’s internal Preparedness Framework, Terra reached the Critical level in cybersecurity; OpenAI says it uses protective mechanisms developed for GPT-6 Astra.
