Uphold, a prominent cryptocurrency trading platform, will halt support for several stablecoins, including Tether (USDT), starting July 1, 2024, due to the EU’s new MiCA regulations. This policy change affects stablecoins such as GUSD, DAI, FRAX, TUSD, and USDP.
Clients are advised to convert these stablecoins to USDC, EURC, or PYUSD by June 27, 2024. Remaining balances will automatically convert to USDC post-deadline. This move aligns with MiCA’s goal to enhance consumer protection and market integrity in the crypto sector.
MiCA, approved in late May, aims to create a unified regulatory framework for crypto-assets across EU member states. This regulation is crucial for maintaining a secure and transparent cryptocurrency market. The strategic importance of this shift cannot be overstated as it ensures compliance and stability in the evolving digital asset landscape.
