Foreign Spies Mining Near US Military Bases

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has raised concerns about foreign cryptocurrency mining companies operating within the country, accusing them of espionage on military bases and posing risks to national security. Warren highlighted that these mining operations consume significant electricity, which could destabilize the power grid.

She also noted the environmental damage caused by these “noisy and hot” operations. Warren pointed out that one-third of foreign miners in the U.S. are owned by Chinese entities, some linked to the Chinese government. She cited MineOne Partners Ltd., banned in May 2024 from owning land near a Wyoming Air Force base, as a prime example.

Warren argued that foreign nationals bypass traditional banking and anti-money laundering regulations by using cryptocurrencies to purchase mining operations. The senator calls for stringent oversight and anti-money laundering protections to safeguard national interests. Stricter regulations could reshape the U.S. cryptocurrency mining and investment landscape, emphasizing long-term national security.
