A Polygon Labs Validator Support Team member proposed a hard fork to recover about 70.49 million POL, valued at $6.5 million, stolen in separate Polymarket and Binance incidents on October 29 and 30, 2026. The funds are currently blocked from transfer, but the blocklist cannot return them. The proposal would move about 23.86 million POL linked to Polymarket and 46.63 million POL linked to Binance into recovery wallets designated and verified by the two institutions, subject to the proposal’s conditions and safeguards.
The proposal is scheduled for discussion at the Polygon Protocol Governance Call on November 5; it has not been approved. If approved, the hard fork would not change POL’s total supply, but validators and other node operators would need to upgrade their Bor clients before its activation block or follow a different chain.
