Solana ETF Unlikely, BlackRock CIO Confirms

BlackRock CIO Samara Cohen announced in a Bloomberg interview on July 29 that the asset manager has no plans to launch a Solana ETF or any other crypto ETF in the near future. Cohen emphasized that only Bitcoin and Ethereum meet their investability criteria.

Bitcoin and Ethereum dominate the crypto market, with Bitcoin holding 55% and Ethereum 17%. This disparity raises liquidity and manipulation concerns for other crypto assets like Solana.

While asset managers like VanEck are pushing for a Solana ETF due to demand from the crypto community, BlackRock remains cautious. Cohen also mentioned that major fund houses will likely include crypto ETFs in their model portfolios by the end of 2024.

BlackRock recently introduced an Ethereum ETF, ETHA, which is driving significant inflows.
