Tether Halts USDT Issuance on Algorand, EOS

Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has announced it will stop issuing USDT on the Algorand and EOS blockchains. This decision follows careful consideration of community interest, maintainability, and usage metrics.

Historically, Tether has ceased support on other blockchains, such as the Bitcoin blockchain in August 2023. This highlights a pattern of Tether optimizing resource allocation for security and efficiency.

A standout feature of this move is Tether’s commitment to maintaining redemption mechanisms for affected blockchains for the next 12 months. This ensures a smooth transition for users.

Currently, a significant portion of USDT is hosted on Ethereum and Tron, indicating these blockchains’ robustness and widespread use.

This strategic shift underscores Tether’s focus on enhancing security and supporting innovation across the crypto landscape, paving the way for future technological advancements.
