BlackRock Delays Solana ETF Decision

BlackRock’s Samara Cohen announced that Bitcoin and Ethereum are the only cryptocurrencies meeting the firm’s strict ETF criteria. This comes after the successful launch of Ethereum ETFs on July 23, 2024, which boosted crypto fund trading volumes to $14.8 billion.

Cohen emphasized the importance of “investability,” citing market depth and regulatory environment as key factors. While Solana is a strong contender, it lacks CME futures, complicating regulatory approval for an ETF.

The cautious approach reflects broader financial market trends, with regulatory hurdles making it difficult for non-BTC and ETH assets to gain ETF status.
