$3.6B leaves Binance; THORChain co-founder opposes coin freeze

Binance reopened withdrawals on 15 blockchain networks after a reported $6.3 billion theft from its hot wallets. Binance said it processed about $4.65 billion in withdrawals and received $1 billion in deposits after reopening. About 95% of the stolen crypto has been replenished using corporate reserves, insurance and half of its Secure Asset Fund for Users.

The FBI attributed the attack to North Korea’s TraderTraitor hackers. Binance co-CEO Richard Teng rejected the account that it resulted from a single compromised laptop, saying the investigation had not attributed responsibility to any individual. Elliptic estimated that about $2.84 billion of the stolen assets had been frozen on chain.
