Binance reopened withdrawals on 15 blockchain networks after a reported $6.3 billion theft from its hot wallets. The source does not give a calendar date for the reopening. Binance said it processed about $4.65 billion in withdrawals after reopening and received $1 billion in deposits; founder Changpeng Zhao said net outflow was 2.1% in the first 12 hours.
About 95% of the stolen crypto had been replenished using corporate reserves, insurance and half of Binance’s Secure Asset Fund for Users. The source describes a compromised laptop as part of the attack, but Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said it was not a single-person or “one-click” breach and that the investigation had not attributed responsibility to any individual.
