BNB Chain Launches Fermi Hard Fork January

BNB Chain’s Fermi Hard Fork Set for January Activation

  • The Fermi hard fork will activate on January 14, following two months in the testnet phase.
  • Block interval will be reduced from 750 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds to support time-sensitive applications.
  • The upgrade includes new voting parameters and an indexing mechanism for efficient data access.
  • BNB Chain currently processes about 222 transactions per second (TPS), with a maximum theoretical TPS of 6,349.
  • Active addresses on BNB Chain have reached approximately 2,871,208, nearing Solana’s count.

This upgrade reflects the ongoing trend in blockchain technology towards increased throughput and faster transaction speeds, aiming to compete with traditional financial systems like Visa, which handles around 1,700 TPS. The enhancements aim to improve the efficiency of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications by reducing lag and slippage during transactions.

With the Fermi hard fork set to lower block times significantly, BNB Chain is positioning itself as a competitive layer-1 blockchain capable of handling more transactions efficiently. This could enhance user experience and broaden its application scope within the ecosystem.(Source)
