Solana co-founder Raj Gokal told Consensus attendees that memecoins’ popularity is driven by user demand, offering a fun way to attract new participants. Solana has become the primary blockchain for memecoin speculation, significantly boosting SOL prices.
CoinGecko reported that Solana is the fastest blockchain, processing millions of memecoin transactions. However, some developers have taken advantage of users through SOL memecoins, while celebrities are increasingly backing these projects. “We didn’t do anything to make that happen. It’s just a thing to do,” said Gokal.
Gokal highlighted the successful launch of the Saga Mobile device, aimed at grassroots blockchain adoption. Despite a slow start, sales surged beyond 150,000 units due to renewed crypto interest and memecoin mania.
Work on the second validator client set, Fire Dancer, aims to increase Solana’s transaction throughput by up to 1,000 times, reaching 5,000 – 10,000 transactions per second. Currently, Solana boasts up to 1,053 TPS, with a potential speed of 65,000 TPS with future upgrades.
These developments underscore Solana’s strategic importance in pushing blockchain technology and mass adoption forward.
