Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse discussed the potential for an XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF) in an interview with Bloomberg on February 20. He stated that Ripple would “certainly welcome” an XRP ETF but did not disclose specific plans.
Garlinghouse did not confirm if Ripple is in talks with asset managers like BlackRock about issuing an ETF. In November 2023, a leaked filing suggested BlackRock was pursuing an XRP ETF, but it was later confirmed to be fake.
Garlinghouse expects more crypto ETFs to emerge, comparing it to the early days of the stock market and emphasizing the importance of diversifying risk. He also mentioned that ETF baskets could further reduce risk.
He noted the SEC’s approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs after a court action, highlighting the importance of regulatory clarity. Garlinghouse praised the investment community for embracing crypto ETFs, suggesting they make markets safer and more robust.
In the long term, the development and acceptance of crypto ETFs could significantly enhance market stability and investor confidence.
