Anza said it activated the Alpenglow consensus protocol on Solana mainnet-beta on October 21, replacing TowerBFT without moving activity to a separate chain. Anza says the design targets finality of around 150 milliseconds, down from approximately 12.8 seconds, but that target was not independently measured across the network for the article.
Finality is different from an initial wallet or app confirmation. The lower target does not make every app instant or, by itself, establish higher transaction throughput. Anza listed further networking changes and post-quantum research as planned work, with no committed release dates.
