The Stellar Development Foundation introduced Project Thruput on October 28 as a technology preview for handling competing blockchain transactions. In reported tests, execution capacity within a single validator rose from about 1.18 million payments per second on one machine to about 7.02 million on eight machines. The foundation says these controlled, component-level results do not measure end-to-end public-network throughput; the preview is available on FutureNet, not deployed as a mainnet capability.
Stellar also says the model can operate without per-transaction execution fees. When demand exceeds capacity, accounts would receive a scheduling share tied to unlocked native-token balances, and individual transactions would still face computational limits.
