Riot Sells $750M in BTC; Hut 8 $250M

Riot Platforms sold 10,599 BTC for about $751.5 million in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, bringing its first-nine-month sales to 20,264 BTC worth nearly $1.5 billion. Riot said it expects to sell substantially all newly mined bitcoin to fund development and operating costs, rather than rebuild a large bitcoin reserve.

Hut 8 sold about 954 BTC for $74.8 million in the third quarter to fund share buybacks, then sold another 2,148 BTC for $175.4 million in October. The two periods totaled 3,102 BTC and about $250.2 million; Hut 8 did not report comparable cash bitcoin sales in the first two quarters. Riot reported quarterly revenue of $181.4 million and net income of about $4 million, while Hut 8 reported $71.1 million in revenue and $131.1 million in net income attributable to the company, which benefited from a substantial noncash gain tied to its digital assets.
